Embellished Monotypes
I create my embellished monotypes by manipulating black oil based ink on a clear plastic plate. This finger painting with the oily ink creates lovely textures and dynamic contrast. After soft, damp paper is placed over this "painting", the image is transferred with an intaglio press. Not all of the ink is removed in the first transfer, thereby allowing the immediate printing of the "ghost" image. A third piece of paper receives the remainder of the ink.
When the ink is completely dry, I paint and draw on each monotype individually with watercolor, chalk pastel, colored pencils, etc., - whatever may suit each specific piece. There are three artworks in each "series", each one a unique, original, embellished monotype.
